The
1956 World Series was played from
October 3rd, to October 10th, a rematch
between the New York Yankees, and the
defending World Champion Brooklyn
Dodgers. The Yankees won the Series
four games to three in the best of
seven series. It was the last New York
City Subway Series until 44 years later
in 2000; when the Mets and Yankees were
featured in the Fall Classic.
The big ticket for this series was game 5, when Don Larsen pitched the
first and only perfect game In World
Series history. On October 8, 1956 the
Yankee Stadium crowd of 64,519 watched
Don Larson, and the Yankees beat the
Dodgers 2-0 against losing pitcher Sal
Maglie. Mickey Mantle hit a 4th inning
