1942 Yankees scorecard

This New York Yankees 1942 Official Scorecard features the Victory "V" or Victory V Eagle design cover. Many teams used this design during the war years from 1942-1945. More than just a Baseball program, the scorecards from this era are a piece of American history. A constant reminder buy United States War bonds printed throughout. It reminds people to save cooking fats for the war effort, (I believe to make nitro) There is even an Air Raid evacuation plan. New York City's Mayor La Guardia provides a system of safety for patrons attending the games. It goes on to state:

"This park is not bombproof but as safe as elsewhere. If opposite your seat you find the label "SIT TIGHT" you will be expected to do just that during an air raid... If the label should read FOLLOW GREEN ARROW, or FOLLOW RED ARROW you will e expected to comply with these instructions. If seated in the bleachers follow painted directional lines to exit. If an alert is sounded walk to place of safety. Don't run or shout. Obey the air raid wardens. PLAY YOUR PART IN THE DEFENCE GAME. Please comply with these instructions. They are intended for your protection."

Loaded with alcohol, cigarette and cigar advertisements this scorecard brings us back to another time. There is also a Warning Notice; "Betting and gambling of all kinds are prohibited in the ball park...." A great collectible, but with typical problems, these books often have dry brittle paper, foxing (browning) and the binding splitting apart, so handle with care.
