The New York Yankees premium
posters were made available by the Burger King
Corporation in 1978. The 17" x 22"
posters feature the award winning
artwork of The Journal News editorial
cartoonist Frank Becerra. Manager Bob
Lemon looks over the twenty six players
of the 1978 New York Yankees which include:
Catfish Hunter, Thurman Munson, Reggie
Jackson, Rich Gossage, Sparky Lyle,
Craig Nettles, Willie Randolph, Ron
Guidry, Chris Chambliss and Lou Pinella.
Manager Bob Lemon took over for Billy
Martin in July and led the Yankees to
their 22nd World Series Championship
title.
Artist Frank Becerra, used Prismacolor black pencils and black ink from a
Rapidograph pen to create the players
individually. The finished artwork
needed to be done so each player would
fit like a puzzle so that firm handling
the Burger King promotion could set up
of the layout for the poster.
