The Dallas based Mickey Mantle's
Country Cookin' franchise opened it's
first restaurant in December of 1968 in
Longview Texas. The prototype
restaurant located in San Antonio
opened in March 1968 as Mickey Mantle's
Country Kitchen; but a
Minneapolis-based franchise chain,
Country Kitchen international owned the
name since 1939, and brought suit
against Mickey Mantle. In agreement
with the settlement, the name was
changed to Mickey Mantle's Country
Cookin'..
Mickey Mantle was named chairman of
the board of ten restaurants and drew a
yearly salary of $100,000. Mantle was
fired late in 1969 after the stock
plummeted from $15.00 a share to $2.00.
Despite coming up with the advertising
slogan: "To get a better piece of
chicken You'd have to be a rooster,"
Mantle officially resigned in 1970.
Mickey Mantle's Country Cookin' Inc.
then changed it's name to Invesco
International and closed all of it's 11
locations to make a new start in the
firms restaurant operations.
"Mickey Mantle's Country Kitchen"
plates from the original prototype
restaurant in San Antonio are extremely rare.
There is no sales history to estimate a
value. Other "Mickey Mantle's Country
Kitchen" memorabilia includes:
restaurant trays which picture Mickey
Mantle have an estimated value of about
$1,500.-$2,500. The Menu picturing
Mickey Mantle eating has an estimated
value of about $150.-$300. A napkin
with the same design as the plate sold
for 209.57 on ebay in 2017.
Mickey Mantle's Country Cookin' plates
are far more common and generally sell
for about $20.-$40.
