This
is a Philadelphia National
League Base Ball Club Phillies press pin issued for the 1915
World Series played at Baker Bowl. This Fall Classic
featuring the Boston Red Sox and the
Philadelphia Phillies was hosted by the
same two cities the year before in
1914, but it was the Boston Braves vs.
the Philadelphia Athletics. The pin
pictured can be attributed to Stephen
Orlando Grauley, AKA S.O.G., a
Philadelphia Inquirer sports writer
from 1898 - 1925, and sports editor
from 1925 - 1958. This attribute is
estimated to double the
common market value for the Press pin.
The Red Ribbon features the gold
embossed Word "Press" that hangs from
the Brass Broach with the seal of the
City of Philadelphia centered by the
BWAA - Base Ball Writers Association
logo, and surrounded by the text "World's
Series, Phila. 1915." The dangling
medal with the team logo in relief at
the
center, with gold lettering on the
enameled circumference are the words
"Philadelphia National League Base Ball
Club."
The Philadelphia Phillies Logo on this press pin is believed to be one of
the first, if not the first, team logos
in the history of Major League
Baseball.
The back of the medal features
the "J.E. Caldwell & Co., Phila."
manufactures marking.
