This
is an American
League Base Ball Club Philadelphia
Athletics press pin issued for the 1913
World Series played at Shibe Park. The pin
pictured can be attributed to Stephen
Orlando Grauley, AKA S.O.G., a
Philadelphia Inquirer sports writer
from 1898-1925, and sports editor
from 1925-1958. A Close personal
friend of Connie Mack, this attribute
could double the common market
value for the Press pin.
The brooch portion of the pin is
centered with an emerald green crossed
bats diamond shape logo of the
BBWAA-Baseball Writers Association of
America, surrounded by raised text
reading "World's Series, Shibe Park,
Phila. 1913. The blue ribbon with a
white stripe is embossed with the word
"PRESS" in gold. The circular medallion
that hangs from the ribbon is identical
to the 1911 World Series press pin medal, but without the
scalloped edge, and reads "American
Base Ball Club of America." The center
of the medallion displays a raised
relief featuring a Phillies logo
design, consisting of a crossed
bats-and-ball, with the elephant above
and the word "Athletics" below.
Verso is stamped, "J.E. Caldwell
& Co., Phila." This pin is accompanied
with the rarely survived original box
with the text on lid that reads "Worlds
Series, 1913, Shibe Park Philadelphia,
Compliments of, The American Baseball
Club of Philadelphia, "The Athletics"'
