On
April 22, 1957 demonstrators massed a
rally in front of Borough Hall to
protest the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn.
Groups of sandlot players in uniform,
and fans
carried signs in protest. These "Keep
The Dodgers In Brooklyn" buttons were
distributed by the Keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn
Committee, who started a petition drive
for 1,000,000 signatures. The "Keep the
Dodgers in Brooklyn" pins were also handed
out to fans entering Ebbets Field on
opening day, April 19, 1957.
The 1-1/2 inch diameter, Dodger Blue
pin back button that features the
Dodgers Script logo reads, "KEEP THE
Dodgers
IN BROOKLYN" in white print. The
manufacture credit line printed on the
rim reads "Spiegel Nov Co. INC" Beware
of reproductions. These pins are very
rare and the back of the pin which has
a relief of the Union label could be a
distinguishing factor.
